Through this workshop, participants will enhance their understanding of the multi-faceted challenges facing water and wastewater infrastructure and leave equipped with practical strategies to protect these critical systems from the effects of stormwater. Understanding and mitigating these impacts require a comprehensive grasp of how rainfall interacts with both surface and subsurface hydrologic processes. This workshop will provide a technical exploration of stormwater runoff, beginning with an analysis of the hydrologic cycle and its complex relationships with surface water and groundwater dynamics. Attendees will gain insights into the mechanisms by which storm events influence water and wastewater systems, followed by an in-depth discussion on common vulnerabilities, such as inflow and infiltration, and best practices for mitigation.
