The surge effects of trapped air in aging pipelines and the health and safety effects resulting from negative pipeline pressure have captured both public and professional interest. The challenges faced by municipalities in maintaining these pressure pipelines have compounded the issue. This presentation will clearly show vaporous cavity formation and its effects on pipeline in both lab and field conditions. It will present methods and new understanding of surge and surge protection as well as innovative new developments in air valve design and maintenance.

Chuck Rockacy is a graduate of Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA. with a bachelor’s degree in environmental biology.  He has over 35 years of experience as a manufacturer representative in the water & wastewater industry as President of Rockacy and Associates, Inc.  His experience includes extensive knowledge in the air valve industry, large diameter water and sewer pipes, horizontal directional drilling, pipeline rehabilitation and many other related products and installation.
