The surge effects of trapped air in aging pipelines and the health and safety effects resulting from negative pipeline pressure have captured both public and professional interest. The challenges faced by municipalities in maintaining these pressure pipelines have compounded the issue. This presentation will clearly show vaporous cavity formation and its effects on pipeline in both lab and field conditions. It will present methods and new understanding of surge and surge protection as well as innovative new developments in air valve design and maintenance.
