The Water and Wastewater Systems (WWS) Sector is vital to the health, safety, economy, and security of the nation; however, it is also vulnerable to both cyber and physical threats. The WWS Sector is among a handful of sectors experiencing a significant level of cyber risk combined with a relative lack of resources or investment to address those risks.

In recent months, cyberattacks targeted toward Water and Wastewater Systems (WWS) Sector facilities have significantly increased and include attempts to disrupt various control and monitor stages and processes of Water and Wastewater treatment.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Federal Bureau of Investigation have collaborated on a variety of resources designed to help WWS entities strengthen their cybersecurity and enhance resilience in the event of a cyber incident.

This class will cover topics for water and wastewater systems at every level of cybersecurity maturity. Speaker will discuss resources to protect against, and reduce impacts from, threats posed by malicious cyber actors looking to attack water and wastewater systems such as simple ways to stay safe when using our phones, laptops and smart devices; discussion on common vulnerabilities and protective measures; top cyber actions for securing water systems; and how WWS utilities can work with federal partners during each stage of the cyber incident lifecycle.
